Myself and Stuart managed to get another round in today. It’s getting lighter in the mornings already and we managed to tee off at 6.45am and it had already been light since about 6.30am. I was eager to put my bad round behind me from yesterday (only 29 points) and play a better, more solid round.
The NE winds was bringing a chill again, as we played the first. I picked up a rare par here (it’s a long starting hole) and Stu finished with a 6 after hitting his drive in to some long grass down the right hand side.
We got to the 3rd and had to play our drives in to the wind, which can make club selection on this hole tricky. We both ended up leaving our tee shots just off the green and hit heavy bump-and-run shots past the hole. Ended up with a 4 each.
2 par 5′s next and we both picked up some good points here. 6 for Stu and 5 for me. We both continued strong for the rest of the front 9 and ended up with 21 points each.
On to 10 and this was the only hole of the day that I shot 2 over, as I ended up hitting my 2nd out of bounds down the left and in to the sand dunes which run along the southern edge of our course.
Stu made a good par 3 on the 11th, in to the wind again, as it had now moved and was coming in from the East. We thought this would make 12 and 13 tricky. And it did! And this is where Stu started to lag and played some sloppy shots, which we thought he was getting rid of after 41 points yesterday. He finsihed the 12th with 8.
Stu didn’t managed to pick him self back up after that and finished the round with 30 points. I managed to keep hitting nice shots and finished with 38. A vast improvement on yesterdays round.
It was my second round with my new Garmin Approach S3 (review coming shortly) and I have to be honest, I’m not sure how I managed without it. In the past, I have over-clubbed many times, or not been sure of the distance, but today I was getting my lenght spot on. Finished the weekend with a good round, and now can’t wait for next Saturday when we will all get to go out again.
