Baby G here….very cold in December myself, Paul and Matt and a guest (Mark), played the Park Course at Goodwood in Chichester. Paul was kindly offered rounds at the club through a business contact.
The fairways were muddy due to the rain and the ball wasn’t travelling far which made the course far harder. On the 1st a long Par 4, myself and Matt scored a 6 after a few fat shots, Paul played a tremendous shot out of the semi-rough with his trusted heavy hybrid and scored a great par.
The second, a Par 3 was also playing long but we all scored a 4 and were happy to score points. All 3 of us were pretty close on the front nine until I scored a triple bogey on hole 7, however, Paul and myself ended up with 15 points and Matt scored 19 so had a healthy lead.
I needed to close the gap and started the back 9 with a Par on the 10th and the others a 5. This gave me some hope and plodded along with the others. Matt had a triple bogey on the 12th which gave me more hope and I sunk a long putt for birdie on the next.
I was closing the gap with Matt as was Paul but I let it slip with another triple bogey on the 17th which sealed it for Matt. Paul finished with a par on the long Par 5 18th and myself and Paul finished on 31 points. Matt finished with a very respectable 39 points on a very muddy, long course. I lost on countback and deserved to be reviewing with the amount of triple bogeys I had!
Nice course though and we are due to play the more testing Downs Course next time!…Stay tuned for more reviews.
