The cold mornings have set in, however, we don’t mind wrapping up warm as long as no temporary greens are in play and thankfully there were none to be seen. This morning it was only me, Paul and Matt as Stuart was on a course in Birmingham (that’s what he tells us anyway!).
The first hole is a long hole especially when the muscles are a bit tight and we all tend to treat it like a par 5 and are more than happy to get 2 points to start off with. Paul and Matt got their 5 but I 3 putted for a 6 to get one point, I was already playing catch-up.
We all scored 5 on Hole 2 and 4’s on the next Par 3. The first par 5 Paul sliced his drive and I nearly got a hole in one…by driving my ball onto the 3rd Par 3 green! I ended up with a 7 and Paul an 8 but Matt ended up with a steady 6. The next Par 3 the 6th we all scored 3 but I was slowly drifting away from the other 2.
The Par 3 8th Matt birded but me and Paul scraped a 5. I needed a few birdies to have a chance to catch up with them but it wasn’t happening. After the first 9 I had 46 shots, Paul 43 and Matt 39.
A new 9 and Matt was striking the ball very well and carded a 4 and 5 for me and Paul. We all bogeyed the next hole the first Par 3 of the back nine. I then had a triple bogey on the next hole, which realistically put me out of the picture. It was one of those days where my ball striking was poor and my head dropped.
Matt and Paul played solid for the rest of the back 9 and both scored well. Paul finished birdie, birdie, par and Matt continued to score on every hole. I finished with a long putt to save a bogey but still I knew walking down the 18th I would be writing this review.
Thoroughly enjoyable round as usual but the others played far better and Matt finished with an excellent 41 points. Well done Matt!
